Danbury Grange Holds Final Supper for 2013

The aromas of chicken pot pie and apple crisp greeted people in the Danbury Grange Hall last Saturday for the final 2013 supper and the last Living Sustainably program of the year.

While waiting for dinner, attendees circled tables loaded with wonderful craft ideas and freebies to take home. Marjie Gorman and The Purple Ant’s Barbara Weber, both from the Grange’s monthly farmers markets, assisted adults and children in making craft items, both useful and whimsical.

Further along, author and Danbury Transfer station’s Carl Hultberg assisted with proper disposal methods for potentially hazardous materials and information about the station’s own recycling programs. Freebie peanut butter storage jars, fireplace lighter logs, corks, plarn (plastic yarn made from grocery bags), and t-shirt boas were there for the taking.

For those not interested in the crafts, the stage was lighted to display one of the four Egbert Foster curtain sets, painted in the 1920s. (Watch for future programs about their restoration.) In the meantime, they will be visible at the Winter Farmers Markets, running the first Saturdays of the month from November to May.
