Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway Coalition (SRKG) summer hikes are free to the public. Please call the volunteer hike leader to learn starting location and time. Be prepared for summer conditions. Remember to bring water, bug and sun protection, and a snack.
Saturday, September 20: Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) Rock Moving Workshop, Newbury near Chalk Pond. Safely move large rocks to build trail steps on Greenway’s Fishersfield Trail. AMC Trails instructor. All tools provided. Less than one mile. Contact Nathan Richer at 763-2127 or NRicher@nullruger.com.
Sunday, September 28: Work day on Bradford’s handsome Knight’s Hill Trail. Repair and build water bars to control trail erosion. Shovels primarily: moderate few miles walk to work. Help the Bradford Conservation Commission maintain this trail. Contact George Beaton at 938-2637.
Hikers should help the trails they hike. Hike and Help: you can do both. Unlike “the real world,” a trail work day in SRKG-world is less than eight hours, even including walk-to-work time. And unlike that alleged real world, the satisfaction can be instantaneous, as you see the results and realize where you are.
SRKG Trailwork projects support and are assisted by the Quabbin-to-Cardigan Partnership. For more information, visit Q2Cpartnership.org or SRKG.org.
