This is one of our favorite times of the year. We are all settled into our classrooms, and the school year is off to a great start. The scents of simmering apple sauce, pine cones, and fall wonders are in the air.
The Tigers and Pandas enjoyed a trip to the Andover Fire Station in celebration of Fire Safety Week. We had the opportunity to climb on the fire trucks and explore the inside of the rescue vehicle. It was exciting to see the fireman dress up in all their gear and learn what to do in case of a fire. We wrapped up our adventure by exploring our classrooms and practicing our own fire drill. We stopped, dropped, and rolled and ended the day at our meeting spot outside of the center.
During October, the pre-kindergarten Pandas once again ventured off campus to visit Hackleboro Orchards in Canterbury. Together we learned about the many different types of apples, about different trees, and all the wonderful things we can do with apples. Each child had the opportunity to pick their very own bag of apples!
We enjoyed a delicious treat of homemade apple pie (thank you, Kyle Tremblay) and sipped on yummy apple cider (thank you, Brian Duchesne). We wrapped up our week with simmering apple sauce and delicious apple treats.
The month ended with a spooooktacular Halloween Family Night. The center was crawling with creepy characters, Superman, Ana and Elsa, a roaring lion, and of course many more princesses, vampires, and even a policeman. The children followed the monster feet to several stations throughout the school. We pinned the nose on the mummy, reached inside the monster’s tummy, bowled a few ghosts over, fed a few ghostly creations, made a yummy “treat,” and picked a pumpkin from our patch. We love, love hosting family nights and enjoy the chance to see our families together laughing, exploring, and enjoying each other.
Once again, we are reminded that we live in the best community. The children dressed in their costumes one more time as we trick-or-treated our way through the campus and around town. Our bags were overflowing with delicious goodies, and the children were thrilled to be greeted with so many smiling and welcoming faces. We often ask how we got so lucky, and clearly the answer is right outside our door.
November is here, and that means we are off on our Turkey Trot. Once again children will be visiting local businesses in search of those darn turkey feathers. With any luck, we will return to the Inn ready to dress our very cold and featherless turkey. The turkey will be on display during our Grandparent Pie Social held later this month. It’s been a wonderful tradition here at the Inn that we look forward to continuing for many years to come.
Here’s to a wonderful November. Before you know it, we will be decking the halls and spreading holiday cheer!
