Press Release

The New London Recreation Department, the Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce, and the Center for the Arts have worked together to present a variety of events for families on December 5 to welcome this holiday season.

Santa will kick-off this event, arriving at Whipple Hall at 4 PM to welcome all young children and give each child a candy cane! Santa’s visit is sponsored by the New London Recreation Department.

At 5 PM, the annual New London Christmas Tree lighting will take place on the New London Green on Main Street. This event is sponsored by the Lake Sunapee Region Chamber of Commerce. Dress warm for this outdoor event!

The Center for the Arts will present Music Fête! a program featuring local professional musicians from 5:15 to 7 PM at Whipple Hall. Music Fête! will feature the Lake Sunapee Area Flute Choir, the New London Elementary School Chime Choir, and the Sunapee Singers. To conclude this evening of holiday music, the Sunapee Singers will lead the audience in a Christmas carol sing-along. Light refreshments will follow.

Music Fête! Brings to New London the following concert groups:

The Lake Sunapee Area Flute Choir was formed in 2013 and has performed in many area churches and at local concerts. Playing on traditional C flutes, as well as alto and bass models, this fine group of musicians perform arrangements from high classical repertoire and pieces composed especially for flute ensembles. The members include Erin Angley, Nola Aldrich, Cindy Bohem-Patenaude, Marsha Carmichael, Anne Cragin, Nicole Densmore, and Carol Jeunnette.

The KRES New London Tone Chimes consists of an enthusiastic group of young ringers (grades 4 and 5) who meet after school to prepare a concert of Christmas and holiday songs. Playing on two and one half octaves of Suzuki Tone Chimes, the group creates rich harmonies with a sound much like a hand bell choir. These students sharpen their music skills while spreading the joy of the season.

The Sunapee Singers, in existence for over 15 years, is a group of 12-13 acappella singers. Their primary mission is to sing for retirement communities, Alzheimer’s units, hospice patients, and senior citizen groups. Their music style tends to be challenging close harmonies of recognizable tunes. Members include Alice Field, Jody Cooper-Rubin, Marge Judge, Nina Rogers, Nancy Marsh, Barbara Dietrich, Suzanne Tether, Sylvia Dowd, Tink Tysor, Jack Caldon, David MacMillin, Bill Gundy, and Rick Marsh. The Sunapee Singers’ Director is Charlotte Signor.

ALL FIRST FRIDAY EVENTS are free and open to the public. On the First Friday of each month, the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts hosts a series of free arts programs for the community; including Poetry Nights, as well as Theater Night. Working with their business partners in the community, CFA continues to showcase local and regional talent in the Lake Sunapee area for the benefit of the artists, performers, residents, and visitors to our beautiful region.
