Sophie Viandier Resigns from Board of Selectmen

Focus shifts to job in Kenya, accelerated school schedule

It is time I announce my resignation from my position as Selectwoman.

Last summer I was offered a job in Kenya to teach 30+ students in reforestation and water conservation this June and July. I have decided to accept their offer and will most likely stay on with the organization after that.

I love Andover to bits, and I really love being on the Board and volunteering my time around town, but I’m completely beat from trying to scrape by financially. I’ve also just been accelerated two years in my University and will have to spend much more time doing my schoolwork than I have been. (It has already taken me two years to do my first year of college.)

It was – and is still – my dream to make Andover the paradisiacal community that it should be, but I need more experience and availability. I’m working so many odd-jobs that I feel I’m not fully effective but instead half-assing (or eighth-assing) everything just to fulfill basic duties.

Thank you all for the support and trust. I am honored to have served such an incredible community.

Apologies and thanks,

Sophie Viandier
