ANDOVER ELEMENTARY MIDDLE SCHOOL

Spring has sprung at AEMS! It is time for mud, poetry, puddles, Seussical, and spring assessments!

Seussical the Musical is almost here! The Andover Players have worked hard and you will definitely be impressed. They are ready for Broadway! Two Seussical teasers are attached to this email. Check it out! And be sure and enjoy the Seussical artwork next time you are in the building.

Eighth grade students continue to fundraise. Time is running out to purchase an iPad raffle ticket. The drawing will take place during Seussical the Musical intermission on March 25th. There will be a chance to buy raffle tickets at both shows.

The winning design for the AEMS Earth Day 2016 t-shirt was a combination of two entries. I think you’re going to love it! It was a tough competition this year as there were a lot of entries. We have some amazing graphic artists! Congratulations go out to Cedar Kiedaisch, Cassidy Piroso, and Sophia Reynolds.

We will recognize Pi Day on Monday. Interested students will participate in the Annual Pi Challenge when they recite as many digits of Pi as possible. We have Pi pencils, Pi tattoos, and oatmeal pies!

The Smarter Balanced State Assessment testing begins next week for the 3rd grade classes. Assessment information and schedule was sent through the mail to 3rd-8th grade families.

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord is spreading the word about the Alex Higgins Space Camp Scholarship program. All NH residents ages 9 – 18 are eligible to apply. They will choose three young people each year for five days of immersive simulated astronaut or pilot training at the U.S. Space and Rocketry Camp in Huntsville AL. The scholarship covers the full cost of housing, meals and tuition; travel costs are not included. Deadline is April 1; the awards will be announced at their annual family aerospace festival on Saturday, May 7th. All the details are on their website – www.starhop.com

There is an exciting local 4-H opportunity available in town. Please contact me if you think your child would be interested in being involved in a 4-H goat project.
