The Andover Service Club (ASC) is presenting a family-friendly production, Fred Marple of Frost Heaves, New Hampshire starring Ken Sheldon, on Saturday, April 20 at 7 PM in AE/MS. Admission at the door is $10 for adults, $5 for students 6 to 16, and under 6 are free. Proceeds will benefit the Andover Service Club Merit Scholarship Program.
Fred , also known as humorist and songwriter Ken Sheldon, has appeared on New Hampshire Chronicle and in the pages of Yankee Magazine for which Sheldon writes a regular humor column. Fred is also the star of the Internet video hit Yoga for Yankees featuring such innovative poses as Downward Scratching Dog and other genuine New England poses. He is a graduate of the Frost Heaves Academy and the East Coast School of Knife Sharpening and Carburetor Repair.
As part of the evening’s entertainment, Fred will introduce some of the local businesses in Frost Heaves including the Frost Heaves House of Pizza (home of the New England Baked Bean Pizza) and the Bait and Beauty Salon. “We don’t actually have much industry in Frost Heaves, personal or otherwise,” says Fred.
Fred will present the latest news from Frost Heaves including the results of the most recent election and town meeting, the proceedings of the Frost Heaves Regional Economic Council, and more.
You’ll also meet some of the town’s notable citizens including Sophie Hamilton, 94-year old organist at the Frost Heaves Community Church (“She’s slowing down,” says Fred), Homer and Elmer Cratchet (two brothers who are a few crackers shy of a box), and Edith “Telegraph” Wyer, Town Clerk, among others.
The evening will also feature humorous songs and sing-a-longs for those who feel so inspired. “You don’t have to sing if you don’t want,” says Fred. “We ain’t going to force no one.”
For 54 years, ASC has been awarding merit scholarships to high school seniors and continuing education college students who reside in Andover or East Andover or who are children or grandchildren of ASC members who reside in Andover, East Andover, Danbury, Wilmot, Hill, New London, New Hampton, Canterbury, Bristol, Concord, Franklin, and Springfield. Community support of ASC programs such as Fred Marple is necessary for the continuation of the ASC Scholarship Program. The ladies of ASC wish to express our sincere gratitude to the members of the local and surrounding communities who have supported us in the past and continue to support ASC events. It is the hope of the ASC members that the Club will continue in service to the community for another 54 years.
