Two members from Andover’s Halcyon Seekers chapter of the New Hampshire Circle of Home and Family (NHCHF) attended the state NHCHF Spring Fling held at Fox Forest in Hillsborough.

The theme was Woodland Wonders, and members could come in a costume related to nature. Thirteen of the attendees came in costume. We had a moose, leopard, cheetah, bobcat, daisy, bunny, flower pot, birch tree, black birch tree, butterfly, social butterfly, four seasons, and a gardener.

First prize went to the four seasons costume. Second prize went to the bunny, and third prize was the black birch tree.

The morning speaker was Anna Casaubon-Rocheville from the Butterfly Place. She spoke about butterflies and the plight of the Monarch Butterfly. We received a lot of information as well as discount coupons. Anna brought two butterfly hatching kits as door prizes.

At lunch time, one hardy soul braved the black flies and hiked a nearby trail.

In the afternoon, Gary Samuels presented a very informative talk about wildflowers. His background is in botany, biology, and mycology. Gary lives in nearby Deering and has made a study of the wildflowers in this area.

Throughout the day, the members had the opportunity to bid on nature auction items. There was some good-natured rivalry for some articles.

We also had a lot of butterfly-themed door prizes. It was a fun and informative day.
