First Friday Gallery Night Features Many Artists

Photos, paintings, drawings, glass, and more

Press release

The community is invited to the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts’ First Friday Gallery Night on Friday, August 5, from 5 to 7 PM. Light refreshments will be served at each venue.

Gallery openings and artists’ receptions are taking place at three New London locations: The New London Inn, Lake Sunapee Bank, and Whipple Hall Gallery, all on Main Street, plus at two Sunapee Galleries: Harbor House Livery and Harbor Gallery on Main Street, Sunapee.

Exhibits at all CFA MicroGalleries in New London run through October 29.

Please drop in anytime and view the outstanding artwork by these artists.

The New London Inn will host artwork by Bill Haust, Lynn Haust, and Elizabeth D’Amico. Bill Haust, an art professor at Plymouth State University living in Ashland, New Hampshire, describes his process: “Through my (pastel) drawings, the simple, authentic, direct, and first-hand way of seeing nature is as meaningful as existence. The world takes on a new dimension of clarity and subtlety.”

Lynn Haust, also of Ashland, teaches at Winterhill Glass Studio, The Holderness School in New Hampshire, and Snow Farm in Massachusetts and is a member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen. Working in glass, her inspiration comes from the landscapes of New England and the art of ancient artists.

Elizabeth D’Amico of Springfield is a former professor of art at Plymouth State University and is now the visual arts coordinator for the Center for the Arts and a mixed media artist. She states, “Whatever the field, the ability to take risks, to see the world from many different perspectives, and to enjoy the process of creating is what an artist’s life is all about. There is so much to cherish and respect about the balances, beauty, and strength of our natural environment.”

Lake Sunapee Bank will host fine art photographs by Mary Gerakaris. A photographer from Canaan, Mary captures the colors and abstract shapes of nature on paper and metal. She confides, “Nature can add a shadow here or dramatic lighting there in a confounding number of patterns and colors. I find this truly humbling and mysteriously beautiful.”

Whipple Hall Gallery will host the work of Karena J. Ness of Lempster. Karena describes herself as “an artist in the company of birds. I articulate suggestions of the natural world from cosmic expanses to topography and, most recently, bird imagery. The birds are not predetermined. Rather, they appear to land unintentionally with no literal classification yet offer an identity within the spaces they inhabit.”

Harbor House Livery will host paintings by Tom Pirozzoli and Vicki Koron and photographs by Ken Schuster. The opening will be followed by music by Tom Pirozzoli and Kit Creeger from 7 to 9 PM. This opening is co-hosted by the Sunapee Heritage Alliance and the Sunapee Coffeehouse. Art at the Livery may also be viewed on Saturday, August 6, from 1-6 PM and on Thursday through Sunday, August 11 through 14, from 1 to 6 PM. For more information, visit ProjectSunapee.org or contact Info@nullSunapeeHeritageAlliance.org.

Harbor Gallery will feature the work of joodworker Fred Robinson; designer of Lake Sunapee-themed art David Zerba; painter Yvonne Shukovsky; potter Anne Boisvert; landscape painter Debbie Campbell; and Marie Wiggins, fiber art.
