Lakes Region Folk Trio to Appear at September Coffeehouse

Coffeehouse returns to Grange Hall on September 16

Press release

Returning to the Highland Lake Grange Hall on Friday, September 16, after two months of outdoor concerts, the Andover Community Coffeehouse will offer a musical performance by the Buskers, a Lakes Region trio of “folk impurists with a smart, distinct voice and a kitchen-sink repertoire of influences and instruments from jug band to jazz to roots rock,” according to the group’s Web site.

Buskers members include guitarist and singer-songwriter (and former AE/MS music teacher) Paul Hubert, violinist Kathy (KZ) Sommer, and multi-instrumentalist Craig Jaster. Together, “the trio deftly and joyfully weaves violin, mandolin, guitar, accordion, bass, keyboard, banjo, harmonica, and tambourine into their arrangements. Their influences range as widely as their instrumentation, but their sound is always defined by a shared respect for the crafts of songwriting and arranging and a shared love for the inventive possibilities of improvisation,” according to the group’s Web site. For more information, visit TheBuskers.com.

As in earlier Grange Hall concerts, the September program will also feature up to a dozen open-microphone performers, whose contributions have ranged from the spoken word to a cappella, show-business, jazz, folk, bluegrass, and country-and-western tunes.

Open to the public at no cost (although donations are gratefully accepted), the monthly coffeehouse will begin at 7 PM. Doors to the Grange Hall will open at 6 PM for food purchases offered by the Andover Congregational Church and for open-mic sign-ins on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Sponsors for the evening are the residents of Ragged Mountain Fish and Game Club, whose contributions will help support renovation of the Grange Hall, which is owned by the Andover Congregational Church.

Coming up: On Friday evening, October 21, enjoy a performance by 22-year-old Irish guitarist and singer-songwriter David Skinner, “known for his ability to create a full band sound with just his guitar, along with his deep soulful voice.” Read and hear more at DavidSkinnerLive.com.
