Governor, Libertarian, Max Abramson

opinion-op-ed-at-the-polls-abramsonAs a New Hampshire state representative since 2014, I passed a House Resolution asking Congress to act on NOAA regulations that are killing our fishing industry on the seacoast. NMFS and NOAA finally did act and improve rules. I co-sponsored a bill establishing a committee to study education savings accounts for families of special needs students, and I passed business tax cuts that are already bringing more companies, investment, and jobs to the Granite State.

My goals as governor would include: reduce the property tax burden. Ten to 15% of the state budget is spent on administration, double dipping, interagency lawsuits, $39 million in business subsidies, school administrators, taxpayer-funded lobbyists, and duplication of work already done better at the local level. Remove toll booths that cost the state more than they bring in.

Enact Jessie’s Law, which would enable a Gloucester-style ANGEL program and best practices in drug treatment, prevention, and recovery support. Most western European countries have moved resources from enforcement to treatment and seen dramatic reductions in crime, drug use, drug addiction, and even new HIV and hepatitis cases.

Pardon all non-violent marijuana offenders, over-sentenced, and wrongly convicted. More than one quarter of people serving time fall into one of these categories. This costs taxpayers over $30 million to house them, hurting families and children who must grow up with an absent mother or father.

As a state representative, I am a member of the House Business Caucus. I am also a member of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition and a member of the Seabrook Budget Committee and Planning Board.
