American Legion Post 101 held a dignified flag disposal ceremony on September 20 at the Andover Fire Station. A total of 236 flags that had been deemed unserviceable were burned. The majority of these flags were collected prior to Memorial Day from graves of veterans buried in Andover cemeteries. Post 101 members were assisted in this ceremony by the Andover Boy Scouts. It is planned to hold this event every year on Flag Day in June. The public is invited to participate by bringing unserviceable flags to the Legion during the year, and they will be held until Flag Day when they will be disposed of in a proper manner.Pictured here are Post members who took part in the ceremony: Skip Powers, Levi Southworth, Don Clendenen, Bill Leber, Ron Evans, and Lloyd Perreault.
