On Sunday, December 3, from 11:30 to 3 PM, visitors to the New London Historical Village will be treated to a rural village Holiday Open House when the New London Historical Society (NLHS) will celebrate the season as it was celebrated during the mid-19th century. Our Town Crier, Santa and our Village docents will be on hand to help direct visitors to all the activities throughout the Village.

Be prepared to have all your senses engaged—from simple and artful decorations, to hands-on activities, seasonal music, and delicious homemade treats. The afternoon promises to delight all ages.

In our Country Store, where a toasty wood stove is always burning, you will find baked goods for sale along with some unique gift items.

You can sing “Dashing thru the snow….” when you are taking a horse drawn sleigh or carriage ride in the village. (Weather permitting)

Next door you might tuck into the blacksmith shop to say hello to our talented “smithy” Don Schad. It’s a toasty break along the way to the School house where you can listen to the beloved holiday children’s story.

Then take a break while children delight in a variety crafts offered at the Meeting House and adults can nibble on refreshments and warm drinks provided by our Hospitality Committee.

In the Transportation Museum tour the collections and while you’re there, plan to spend some time enjoying a variety of music that will fill you with the joy of the season. Take a peek at the unique raffle selection of hand crafted items.

Of course, no visit is complete without stopping by the Scytheville House. Here you will experience life in a 19th century home—hearthside cooking over an open fire; spinning in the parlor; gingerbread baked in the oven—a warm and cozy scene decorated so simply that you’ll be tempted to snuggle in for the rest of the afternoon.
