to Protect More Land Around Wendell Marsh

For a number of years Ausbon Sargent and the Town of Sunapee have been focusing on conservation efforts around Wendell Marsh off of Rt. 11 in Sunapee. This area was identified by the Town of Sunapee as a high priority for conservation due to its pristine wetland habitat for waterfowl, wading birds and other wildlife, as well as for the protection of water quality.  In the 1960’s, the NH Fish and Game purchased 10 acres to build a dam that would enlarge and enhance the waterfowl habitat at Wendell Marsh.  Ausbon Sargent then partnered with the Town of Sunapee in 2013 to protect the 136-acre Wendell Marsh North property.  In 2015, Ausbon Sargent and the Town of Sunapee protected an additional 143-acres referred to as Wendell Marsh South. The Town of Sunapee and Ausbon Sargent are now looking to close on another important wetland and upland habitat of nearly 40 acres located in the same watershed.

The bulk of this $99,000 project will come from the Town of Sunapee, a bargain sale by the seller, and a Burton Morgan Foundation grant.  We are in need of some extra help from neighbors and friends in the area to cover the shortfall that will help to protect this pristine property.  If you’d like to help, click Here.
