Last year several residents met with the Selectboard to discuss the possibility of a drawdown of Highland Lake for the purpose of repairs to shoreline structures and landscape. It was too late in the year to follow through and we agreed to revisit the issue this summer.
We are inviting all who are interested in the proposal to do a drawdown of Highland Lake this fall, to attend a public meeting at the town office on Tuesday, August 7 at 6:00.
Some of the topics that will be brought up will include the amount of drawdown, effects on aquatic life, need for structural repairs and causes of erosion. People are welcome to bring up other related issues.
New Hampshire Fish and Game and the Department of Environmental Services are excellent sources of information on lake drawdowns for those who wish to do their own research.
