Last Open House at the Tucker Mt. Schoolhouse for the Year!

Sunday, October 14 from 1 to 3 PM

By Donna Baker-Hartwell, Andover Historical Society

This might be the last scheduled open house for the school however, groups and individuals may visit by contacting the Andover Historical Society at 735-5586 or emailing donnbh@nulltds.net.
The 1837 one-room school house has been visited by more than fifty people this season. People have come from as far away as California and many have come from neighboring towns. One thing they have had in common is an appreciation for the nearly original condition of the school and the history of the early settlers of Tucker Mountain. It was a rugged life in the mid 1800’s. The families who once lived on the mountain- the Tuckers, the Greeley’s, the Seaveys and the Rowe’s took education seriously. They built a rugged little school 171 years ago which operated for 63 years.  It is well-worth the two mile drive or walk from the Highland Lake Inn.
