Lillian E. Owens, (Denish, LaJoie) of Georges Mills passed away peacefully on March 14, 2013 at Woodlawn Care Center in Newport.
She was born on April 28, 1919 in North Wilmot, the daughter of the late Frederick and Caroline (Fowler) LaJoie.
She graduated from Andover High School in 1939 and traveled with her graduating class to the World’s Fair in New York. She later married Merton Denish and moved to Franklin where they raised their four children. She was predeceased by Merton in February of 1987. She remarried Myron Owens in August of 1994, the couple resided in Georges Mills. She was predeceased by Myron in June of 2007.
She spent most of her life as a homemaker and for several years in the early 1970s as a waitress at Salvador’s Italian Kitchen in Tilton. She later moved to North Carolina with her two sons for a brief time in the late 1990s. She returned to New Hampshire for good in 1994 when she married Myron.
She was an avid seamstress and baker. She made many a quilt for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends alike. She always kept the family, friends, and neighbors in plenty of delicious baked goods, bread being one of her specialties.
She is survived by four children: Andrew Denish of Lumberton, North Carolina, Freeman Denish of Lumberton, Kathryn Denish of Georges Mills, and Melvin Denish and his wife Karen of Clarksville, Tennessee; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Esther Grace of Wilmot and Alice Bixby of Ashland, Massachusetts.
She was a devoted and wonderful loving mother and neighbor whom we all will miss dearly. The life’s lessons she taught us are priceless.
