David H. Benson, 61, passed peacefully on July 12, 2019 surrounded by family.
He was born in Concord, Massachusetts on March 26, 1958 the son of the late Gardner and Emma (Harvey) Benson.
David graduated from Kearsarge Regional High School , Sutton, New Hampshire in 1977 and from Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music, Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982.
He lived in Lumberton, North Carolina for 3 1/2 years and then in Cape Coral, Florida for 8 years serving as Minister of Youth and Music in both locations. He moved to Andover, New Hampshire in 1993 where he worked for R.P. Johnson for over 15 years. David was employed for Proctor Academy until he retired due to Frontotemporal Dementia.
He grew up attending Central Baptist Church in Franklin, New Hampshire, which is now Hope Community Chapel, and presently was attending Ragged Mountain Bible Church in Danbury, New Hampshire. David enjoyed music and was a talented baritone singer. He and his wife, Diane, enjoyed traveling up and down the east coast performing Gospel music. David enjoyed being outdoors bird-watching and walking on the rail trail that passed through Andover, as well as enjoying his time spent with family and playing with his five grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Diane (Brown) Benson of Andover, New Hampshire; two children, Carmen (Benson) Palmquist and her husband, Jeremy Palmquist of Raymond, New Hampshire and their children, Connor and Lucey; Jonathan Benson and his wife, Meredith (Winkfield) Benson of Beverly, Massachusetts and their children, Emmaline, Margaret and Henry; his stepmother, Ellen Benson of New Lebanon, Ohio and her family; a sister-in-law, Cindy Benson of Andover, New Hampshire; an aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins and Diane’s family all of Michigan. David was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Paul, and his father-in-law, James Brown.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Andover Community Church, with a gathering to follow next door at the Grange Hall.
