High above the roof of the Potter Place railroad station, volunteer Fred Nystrom, a Contoocook railroad
buff, checks out the condition of the old semaphore, a device once used to send messages from the stationmaster to passing trains by changing the angle of an attached arm via an assembly of hand cranks, levers, rods and bearings. Nystrom is working with the Andover Historical Society to restore the device to its original working condition.
