Kid’s Trout Fishing Derby on May 18

By Amanda Gross, AF&G volunteer

Winter may still be lingering on in April, but hopefully it will feel like spring in time for the Andover Fish and Game Club’s (AF&G) 18th annual Kids Spring Trout Fishing Derby in May. The two fishing derbies held each year by AF&G are a great way for kids to have fun with their families while learning about the outdoors and the great sport of fishing.

The Derby will be held on Saturday, May 18, on Highland Lake in East Andover. The event is for kids 15 years old and under. Registration starts at 7 AM at the Clubhouse by the Channel, and kids may fish from then until 11 AM. Food and drinks will be provided, and lucky prizes, ribbons, and trophies will be awarded. Please bring your own fish poles and bait.

Help Stock the Channel

On Friday, May 17, around 5 PM, the Channel will be stocked with trout by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s Heidi Murphy. All kids are welcome to come and help toss the wriggling fish into the water.

As always, thank you to everyone who attends our fundraising events throughout the year, making it possible for the kids’ fishing derbies to happen. And thank you to everyone who donates their time, money, and supplies to all our endeavors.
