MVHS ’14: You Could Help the Beacon with Your Senior Project!

Journalism? Web? Fundraising?

By Charlie Darling, Beacon staff
Wanted: an MVHS ’14 student to focus their Senior Project on the Andover news Web site or on creating a community-based fundraising plan.

MVHS juniors! When you’re thinking about your Senior Project for next year, I hope you’ll give a moment’s thought to the possibility of helping The Andover Beacon with your efforts.

Idea #1: Andover News Web Site

The Beacon has launched AndoverBeacon.com, big, timely news Web site that serves the community of Andover. This could be the starting point for projects in journalism, photojournalism, Web site management, or even computer programming.

If you’re an MVHS senior who would like to gain valuable experience in 21st-century news publishing on the Web and in print for your Senior Project this year, please contact me at Charlie@nullAndoverBeacon.com or 735-6099 so we can discuss ideas for a project in this area.

Idea #2: Community-Based Fundraising

The Andover Beacon is a non-profit community newspaper, which means we rely on voluntary donations from individuals for a significant portion of our annual budget. The problem is that our fundraising efforts are, frankly, pretty anemic.

What we need is a really good plan for combining fundraising with our mission to give back to the community. We have many ideas for events and projects that would make it easy and enjoyable for people to donate to the Beacon and would, at the same time, help build a stronger community. But ideas aren’t enough – we need your help in organizing the ideas into a coherent, long-term community-based fundraising plan.

If you’re an MV senior who would like to gain valuable experience in fundraising planning and in building stronger communities for your Senior Project this year, please contact me at Charlie@nullAndoverBeacon.com or 735-6099 so we can talk further.
