Betty Lou (Evans) Putney, 86, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021.
Betty was born on February 1, 1934 in New London to Carl A. and Dorothy (Crouse) Evans. After graduation from Andover High School in 1951, she married Fred Ellsworth Putney from East Andover. After many cold winters in New England, Betty and Fred, with their six children, moved to warm Florida.
Betty worked to put Fred through college, and raised her children. She was an active member of the Business and Professional Women of Polk County, serving in many offices including President and District Director. While Fred moved through the offices of the Elk, Betty was very active in the Ladies of the Elk. Later she was very active in Kiwanis of Winter Haven and Kiwanis of Haines City, again serving in many offices including President. Nearly everyone’s assessment of Betty was “she was a real lady”.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Fred, both parents, her brother Carl R. (Rod) Evans, and her daughter Shirley Anne Putney.
She is survived by six children: Linda (Robert) Campbell of Lake Placid; Cathy (Michael) Feltes of Troy, Virginia; Charles Putney of Lake Mary and North Carolina; Carole (Eduardo) deCastro of Winter Haven; Jonathan Putney of Lake Mary; Mary (Steven) Westgate of Winter Haven; her brother Donald Evans of Salisbury, New Hampshire, her sister Patricia Fleury of Wilmot Flat; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 16, at 2:00 at the Lake Placid Masonic Lodge.
