Each year at Andover Elementary/Middle School, Open House is the first community event on the calendar. Although the event had to be put off last year (but was replaced with a day for parents to come see the school before the year started), this year the open house night was able to happen.
The night was rescheduled while the administration made sure there was a plan that met with the safety concerns surrounding COVID-19, but once it was firmly on the calendar for September 19, it was certain that parents, students, and staff were excited to have it back.
Elementary teachers began hanging up work completed by their students. Rooms were full of color and excitement. Middle school teachers were ready to answer questions for parents still adjusting to their child’s transition from elementary school to middle school. Students were excited to show off their rooms to their parents and introduce them to their teachers.
When it was over, it was clearly a moment where the community came together at AE/MS once again. Even social media commenters posted positive reviews of the long-awaited night.
Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come; everyone is looking forward to more events this year to include annual blood drives, outdoor movie nights for middle school, a long-awaited production of The Wizard of OZ, and more.
