The Wizard of Oz will be performed at Andover Elementary Middle School (AE/MS) on Friday, December 17 at 6 PM, and on Saturday, December 18 at 1 PM. There are more than 35 students participating in the play this year. 2019 marked the 80th anniversary of the original movie in 1939 starring Judy Garland as Dorothy. The play was originally slated to open in the Spring of 2020.
Katie Dow is the director and Alex Ager is the musical director of the play. “Casting was extremely difficult. There is incredible talent in the drama club. We are very fortunate to have Kyle Tremblay helping the cast members with the choreography this year. The musical numbers are outstanding,” Dow said.
The main characters who have been recast are played by Bria Tremblay (Dorothy), Ryleigh Perry ( Scarecrow), Ben Simard (Lion), Amelia Bryant (Tinman), and Briley Mudgett (The Wicked Witch of the West). The Andover Players is a drama club for any student in the fifth through eighth grades, however, third and fourth graders were invited to perform this year as Munchkins and Ozians.
Tickets will be available at the door only. Prices are: $8 for adults, $5 for students, and kids under five are free.
