Janet Moore, Candidate for Library Trustee

3 year term

By Janet Moore

I love libraries. Entering and allowing my eyes to be snagged by a particular cover or title causes me to drop everything and tune out the world for a while. Surfacing from the book-induced trance, I find two or three volumes in my arms that have nothing to do with what I was initially seeking. That experience is possible because towns support their libraries, and the trustees help maintain them.

Both buildings have seen a fair amount of upkeep and repair in the last several years. The Bachelder Library got a new side-venting furnace, which meant the chimney had to come down and the roof gable be reconstructed. Inside, the ceiling damage was repaired and cleaned up.

In Andover, the entrance hall closets were removed, the walls repainted, and a used book sale installed. We discussed the concept of universal access, and that resulted in the book return box being re-situated at ground level and talk and planning for a new ramp. However, the Town is drawing up plans of its own, a project in which we will happily assist.

Everything the trustees do is with the good of the community in mind.  We offer information; reading, audio and viewing materials in digital and print format; meeting spaces for all ages; and lots of good cheer. I’d like to continue my participation on the Board in order to facilitate all that community outreach.
