Arthur Jay “A.J” MacArthur Sr., 93, of Andover, passed away of natural causes on September 26, 2022 . A J. Was born in Concord on July 8, 1929, to mother Florence “Bishop” MacArthur and father Arthur P. MacArthur of Penacook.
AJ entered the United States Navy and served on their boxing team, and after several years made it to the Olympic team. After the Navy he was a partner with his brother Gene P. MacArthur in their father’s painting company, MacArthur and Sons Painting Co., one of New Hampshire’s largest painting companies.
AJ’s Grandfather purchased the Piper Pond farm in North. Wilmot over 100 years ago and it was a much loved spot for the MacArthur family. AJ became a pilot in the 1950s and became a commander in the New Hampshire Civil Air Patrol. He was also a ski instructor, water skier, scuba diver, hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed many other sports.
He is survived by his sons, Arthur Jay MacArthur Jr. and Arthur Ray MacArthur, and daughter Travis L. Kadlec MacArthur. His burial will be at Tewksbury cemetery, North Wilmot, On July 8, 2023.
