The Beacon is introducing a new monthly feature — Pup of the Month! Acknowledge your favorite pup (any age) by submitting a brief bio and a photo or two. See our launch below.
“Hey There, Georgy Girl” (from The Seekers, 1967):
So, we traveled down to Georgia in September 2021 to belatedly celebrate the wedding of a great-niece married the prior year. Turns out that the groom’s family raises Labrador Retrievers and, to our surprise, we were introduced to a two-week-old litter of nine, born on August 26.
What to do? We chose the cutest female and returned to Georgia at the end of October to pick up our new pup — Georgie Girl.
Georgie Girl now weighs 76 pounds, most of it muscle! She is strong, athletic, and smart. She is a natural hiker, jumper, and swimmer. She is loyal and obedient (sort of); somewhat obstinate when her wishes conflict with our demands; and laser-focused on food.
We have never seen her smile; she takes life very seriously. But she is willing to cuddle a bit, especially if she gets a belly rub!
