The O’Halloran Group, Keller Williams Lakes and Mountains Realty, held its fourth annual virtual Ultra 1K road race throughout the month of May. The goal of the event is to raise funds and awareness in support of three area food pantries: Kearsarge Lake Sunapee Community Food Pantry, Newport Food Pantry, and Warner Connects NH Food Pantry.

During the event, racers participated from all over New Hampshire, creating their own race routes or enjoying one or all of the official routes located around the Lake Sunapee Region. Many participants took the opportunity to go much farther with their walks or runs, logging several 1Ks throughout the month. 

Between racer participation and generous sponsor support, O’Halloran Group raised $25,690 and donated all proceeds to the food pantries. To date, $68,000 in proceeds have been donated on behalf of the Ultra 1K.

“It has been an incredible experience each year to see our community and local businesses come out and support our local food pantries through the event,” said Dan O’Halloran, broker/owner. “As we are all well aware, food costs are incredibly high and, unfortunately, food insecurity is growing every day. 

“When we started the event, we wanted to create a fun way for people to explore the community and give back. Having raised over $68,000 for our food pantries is just amazing. Thank you to everyone who sponsored, donated, and participated in the race!”

Combined, the three food pantries support residents in 24 towns in the Sunapee Region. In 2022, the Newport Food Pantry provided more than 51,093 meals, with only one director and one volunteer. The Warner Connects NH Food Pantry served 5,312 individuals. The Kearsarge Lake Sunapee Community Food Pantry, with their 80 volunteers, served 1,652 households last year, with 60 new families needing assistance.
