Richard Scott Danforth sailed away on July 10, 2023, after a fierce fight with cancer. His wife, Caroline Gross Danforth was his sole concern, love of his life, best friend, joy of his morning and headliner in his dreams. Her love is endless and enduring and a great comfort to Scott. Caroline was selfless in her sacrifice in caring for and supporting Scott and ensuring his wish to stay home was achieved.
In all the ways in which one can measure a successful life, Scott achieved the highest marks. His male friends felt him a brother, female friends a big brother and those female friends before his marriage hoped he was or would be soon single. Scott has a very long list of close friends whom he was always loyal to, often stepping in to take the blame and never a half share.
He was a builder in wood, friends, family and did excellent work in all. In his 20’s he sailed if he could and worked when he had to. In his 30’s he sailed in the summers in Buffalo, NY and skied in the winter, unless he could sail elsewhere and worked, when required. In his 40’s he adjusted, allowing the 20-year-olds to work the sails and grinders under his direction on the sailboat, and worked when required. In his 50’s he married, and his priority became planting tables, shelves for pottery or any other project or task he could find to do for his Caroline.
Taken too soon at 59, we will miss our brother, his adventures, advice on any topic at no charge and his laugh. Scott’s brother and sister, Jim & Heidi Danforth live in Andover, NH and his wife Caroline Gross Danforth in Buffalo, NY. Scott worked in Andover when not sailing or fishing on Cole Pond, to which he will return.
