Four area photographers will exhibit their works on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8, at The Andover Community Hub, as part of the Sunapee Area Center for the Arts region-wide “Open Studios” event. They will host a reception on Saturday, October 7, from 1 to 3 PM, when visitors can meet them and enjoy light refreshments at The Hub, 157 Main Street, Andover. The Hub will also be open for public viewing of the artwork between 10 AM and 4 PM on October 7 and 8.

The four photographers — Cindy Benson and Jay Fitzpatrick of Andover, and Tom McHugh and Lindsay Holmes of New London -– are members of the CFA’s Photography Café, which meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Tracy Library in New London. They all have many years of experience as photographers, and they are happy to share their tools, techniques, and photographs with the public.

Ms. Benson is a long-time resident of Andover, and she specializes in cell phone photography. She will exhibit a variety of photographs taken locally as well as during her travels throughout New England and elsewhere. Mr. Fitzpatrick will display an array of photographs, ranging from New England landscapes, to flowers, to travel photos and abstracts.

Mr. McHugh and Ms. Holmes manage Great Island Photography based in New London. Their commercial work includes wedding and real estate photography, and they are also avid photographers of birds, nature, and area landscapes.

The photographers will display a variety of their photographs in various sizes and price ranges. As the holiday season approaches, the Open Studio provides area residents with an opportunity to “buy local” for themselves or as gifts for family and friends.

In addition, a formal portrait studio will be set up in the “studio” section of the Hub, and anyone can sit for a formal or informal portrait with digital files available at no charge. The photographers will also set up still-life subject matter on tables, and visitors with cameras (please bring them) will be able to take their own photographs of the set-ups. Photo mounting and matting techniques will also be demonstrated.

The nonprofit Center for the Arts (CFA) is sponsoring the Open Studios to give the public access to the work of visual artists living and working in the Lake Sunapee Region. In a statement the CFA said, “Through Open Studios, we hope to broaden the public’s exposure to and appreciation of finished works of art as well as the art-making process and raise awareness of the diverse artistic experience available in the area.”

The CFA provides maps showing the locations of the studios of 15 artists who will open their studios to the public that weekend. More information including an interactive map of studio locations is available at: Open Studios (centerfortheartsnh.org)
