The Select Board Meeting on Thursday, September 14, discussed the drawing down of Highland Lake.
The Select Board heard from several lake residents who were in support of a drawdown in order to allow them to do some shoreline property maintenance.
Chief Barton also informed the Board that the Fire Department needs to do maintenance on a dry hydrant that would require that the lake be lowered by 30 inches for a day or two.
Recent identification of Eurasian watermilfoil (milfoil) in the lake is another important reason to draw down the lake. A drawdown exposing milfoil root crowns to sub-freezing temperatures has been proven effective in battling the highly invasive vegetation.
Based on feedback, the Select Board suggests that the drawdown be done in November. Feel free to contact the Select Board if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.
