For Veterans Day Remembrance in Salisbury, the Salisbury Historical Society has organized a special ceremony to remember Private John Haskell, an African American who fought in the Civil War and was originally buried in the Smith’s Corner Cemetery without identification. An original article about Pvt. Haskell and the Society’s efforts to honor him was published in the Concord Monitor on Jan.5, 2020. More details about the story of two Civil War veterans, John and his cousin Jack Haskell, are available at https.www.salisburyhistoricalsociety.org/6520-21. Please join us at the Bean/Smith’s Corner Cemetery (Maplewood) on Rt. 4 in Salisbury on Saturday, November 11, at 10 AM. The ceremony will include the folding of the American Flag and a presentation to the Salisbury Historical Society.
