WILMOT – After a four-year hiatus, the Wilmot Community Association’s Black Fly Blitz is back!
Serious runners, casual competitors, and avid walkers should mark their calendars for the WCA’s 16th Black Fly Blitz 5K run/walk. The event starts at 9 AM on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, in Wilmot Flat.
For the safety of runners, walkers and spectators, please leave your dog at home.
Online registration is open and will be available until 5 PM, Saturday, May 25 at www.WilmotWCA.org or at www.pinnaclestrive.com. Until April 30, runners can purchase “Blitz” T-shirts for $10.
Until May 25, race registration is free for children 11 years and younger and $25 for everyone 12 and older. On race day, registration will increase by $5 for everyone 12 and older.
Check-in and day-of-race registration opens at 7:30 AM, Monday, May 27, under the tent on the town green at the intersection of Kearsarge Valley and Village Roads in Wilmot Flat.
“We are delighted that Pinnacle Timing of Newport is handling online registration and will time the race on Memorial Day,” said Marc Davis, co-race director.
The 3.1-mile, 5K scenic course is a clockwise loop that starts on Village Road and continues on Shindagan, Cross Hill, Campground Roads, and ends near the Town Green on Village Road. It is a relatively flat course over slightly undulating terrain. Runners will receive free beverages and snacks after the race.
Awards will be presented at 10:15 AM at the Wilmot Bandstand, on the Town Green next to the Wilmot Town Office Building, 9 Kearsarge Valley Road. First overall female and male runners will receive a special prize. All children 11 and younger will receive a participation ribbon. Awards for the top three participants in the age groups for 12 and older will receive a medal.
The Black Fly Blitz is the WCA’s largest fundraising event of the year. Proceeds support the organization’s free programs and operations.
The WCA owns and operates the Red Barn, a community center on Village Road, and Timmy Patten Park, a beach and playground on Shindagan Road.
