As many of you know, our Mom, Betty Manahan, fell and broke her femur on roadside sand while reaching for the mailbox several weeks ago. A sightseeing couple driving by stopped and provided aid and called 911 and stayed with her until I came running out and Vick and Jon arrived.
Next on the scene were Kevin of the Andover Police, followed on his bumper by Jeff Miller, first responder. As we were covering Mom with blankets, Jeff knelt down to assess the damage and then…and then, he lay down in the sand right next to her on her good side and kept her talking and, just as important, he kept her nice and warm.
The Franklin ambulance showed up within ten minutes–thank you!–and Mom was quickly transported to Franklin ER. After an X-ray and another ride, she landed in Laconia, where she was operated on the next day at noon. By the time you read this, she will be home, safe and sound and determined to “mind the gap and carry on.”
Jeff, thank you a million times over for your prompt and comforting assistance!
Janet, Vicky and Jon
