Wilmot – The Wilmot Garden Club (WGC) is proud to announce the winners of its 2024 Walter Kangas Memorial Scholarship, two promising environmentalists, Sydnie Brahan of North Sutton and Caroline Allen of Warner. Surrounded by WGC members in front of the Wilmot Bandstand during the Wilmot Farmers Market on Saturday, July 20, 2024, the WGC presented the young conservationists their monetary awards of $1000 each.

Sydnie is a sophomore presently majoring in Environmental Studies at the University of Maine in Orono, and Caroline is a freshman at Northeastern University in Boston, taking Environmental studies coursework during the 2024 semester at the University of Dublin, Ireland.

The Walter Kangas Memorial Scholarship is offered to Kearsarge area students by the Wilmot Garden Club in memory of Walter Kangas, a gifted gardener and beloved former member of the club. The monetary award is intended to help defray expenses related to advanced coursework/training in horticulture, biology, conservation, environmental studies, or a related field.
