ANDOVER – Most kids grow up loving the tradition of trick or treating on Halloween. Few things are more fun than dressing up as a favorite superhero, princess, or monster and visiting neighbors for a sweet treat or a good scare.

In the last few years, new Halloween traditions are beginning that make it easier for families in rural areas to gather in a central location to enjoy such Halloween festivities. One such tradition — “Trunk or Treat” — began here in Andover several years ago, started by a local family who has since moved away. Held at the Howard George Ballfield on Lawrence Street, Trunk or Treat provided a central spot for families from outlying rural areas to park their decorated vehicles and dispense treats to costumed kids who went from one decorated car trunk or truck bed to the next.

This year, The Andover Community Hub is happy to be coordinating this fun-filled event that augments the traditional trick or treating on Lawrence Street. Trunk or Treat will be held on Thursday, October 31, 5 to 7 PM, at the Howard George Ball Field, and kids will again have the opportunity to bring home a big bag of goodies.

In addition, for those who would still like to invite trick-or-treaters to knock on their house doors, there will be an opportunity to be listed on a digital Andover “Trick or Treating Map,” through Google Maps. Links to the map will be shared online.

To participate as a Trunk at the ballfield or to be included on the Trick or Treating Map of homes that welcome visitors, residents can submit their names and information to Hub volunteer Miranda Dawalga (mjdawalga@nulloutlook.com or call/text 603 724-9448).
