Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust (ASLPT), which serves 12 towns in the Kearsarge region, announced the appointment of Dr. Hans Carlson as its Executive Director. Carlson begins working at Ausbon Sargent November 1. He previously worked for the Blue Hill Heritage Trust in Castine, Maine, and the Great Mountain Forest in Connecticut.

A boatbuilder and wilderness paddler, Carlson holds a PhD in Environmental and Native History from the University of Maine, as well as a BA and MA in History and Philosophy from the University of Vermont. Having worked with the James Bay Cree in Northern Quebec, he writes that their thinking influences his conservation ethos: “The idea that land is a partner, not property, adds dimensions to land conservation worthy of our consideration.”
