Be sure not to miss Kenneth Overton, baritone, on Thursday, July 11, at 7:30 at the First Baptist Church in New London. He will perform American art songs, arias, spirituals, and songs from musical theater.
Kenneth has consistently received accolades for his rich, gleaming voice and his powerful interpretations. Many will remember his stunning performance in Handel’s Messiah last winter with the Kearsarge Chorale.
After successful engagements with New York City Opera’s Schomberg Series, Kenneth made his NYCO main stage debut in February 2012 as Doctor Grenvil in Verdi’s La Traviata and returned to Boheme Opera as Papageno in The Magic Flute. Recently he performed a gala with the Sarasota Symphony and also sang the title role of Porgy in Porgy and Bess with Lexington Opera Society/University of Kentucky Opera Theater. Kenneth made his Pensacola Opera debut last season in the world premier of David Ott’s, The Widow’s Lantern, and he returned to Pensacola Opera as Joe in Showboat. He reprised the role of Sharpless in Madama Butterfly for Opera Memphis and Porgy for the 75th Anniversary tour for Opera Carolina and returned to San Francisco Opera as Sid in La Fanciulla del West.
Kenneth is also the winner of six leading vocal competitions including the Leontyne Price Competition, the Leiderkranz Competition, and the Rosa Ponselle Foundation Competition.
