Thelma (Dowdy) Thornton, 88, died August 21, 2013 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. She was born in Olustee, Oklahoma on October 17, 1924, the daughter of Edward and Beatrice (Rigsby) Dowdy.
She resided at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen for the past four years, previously living in Andover. She spent her early years in Oklahoma.
After marriage in 1944 to her husband, Jefferson, they lived in many locations all over the United States, Puerto Rico, and Taiwan for his accounting work with a large construction company.
In her early years, she enjoyed going to horse shows and later in life travelled with her daughter Karen showing Old English Sheep dogs.
She is predeceased by her husband, Jefferson, in 1999. Thelma is survived by her children, Karen and Larry; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Patsy, and three nephews.
Funeral services were held on August 26 at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, in Boscawen.
