The Andover Lions Club held another successful golf tournament on September 23. Seventeen teams participated. Prizes were given for the longest drive, closest to the pin, and a hole-in-one. Andover Lion Brett Barselle won closest to the pin, and Derek Lytle won the longest drive.
The winning teams for the men were Zac O’Day, Joe Hubisz, Richard Egge, and Derek Lytle; and for the senior men were Tom Voss, David Patenade, Howard George, and Bob Wilson.
Several players purchased mulligans, contest tickets, and calendar raffle tickets. Refreshments were served both in the clubhouse and on the course. It was a great day weather-wise, and all the golfers appeared to be having a great time.
Many thanks to all the businesses that sponsored a cart hole, prize, or made a donation. We are considering moving it to the spring next year – stay tuned.
Community Projects
It is that time of year when we are doing our community projects. One of these is the sight and hearing screening at the elementary schools in Andover and Danbury. Several of our members participate, and we expect to screen over 100 children.
Then, on October 31 we will be hosting our second annual children’s Halloween party at our Lion’s Den in Andover. It will start at 6 PM, and there will be games, refreshments, and a few goblins wandering around. We continue to support the Andover Food Pantry and appreciate donations to further our cause.
We have begun preparations for our middle school basketball tournament. We are in need of one more school to participate. It will be held over Christmas vacation at the Proctor Field House. Refreshments and team photos will be on sale.
Our calendar raffle tickets are on sale. Track down a Lion member or call Judy Evans at 735-5331. We will try to set up tables around town at various times to also sell these tickets.
