The community is invited to the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts’ First Fridays program on Friday, December 6, from 5 to 7 PM at the New London Inn at 353 Main Street in New London. This evening’s Award Art Show and Music program will bring together our second annual Holiday Sing Along on the Inn’s porch, with the juried regional Award Art Show inside. All Center for the Arts events are free and open to the public. Join us for great art, light refreshments, and an opportunity to meet the artists.

The Kearsarge Community Band will lead our community of singers in a spirited Holiday Sing-Along on the porch of the New London Inn. Come, join in the holiday spirit! Dress warmly. Bring your family and friends and of course your holiday voices. Hot chocolate will follow to keep the winter chill away.

Inside the New London Inn, a Center for the Arts Micro Gallery, will be the opening reception for the first Award Winter Art Show, a follow-up to the November juried show. Of the 34 artists who were juried into the original show, four were selected to present a selection of their work for this first Award Winter Art Show during December.

Four artists were selected by Colby-Sawyer Fine Arts Professors Loretta Barnett and Bert Yarborough. These award artists are

  • Dawn Blanchard from Henniker, who works in mezzotint
  • Shawna Gibbs from Claremont, whose photographic work is a memento mori: it pictures the past. Imaging our loved ones is central to our use of photography. These photos are a reminder of who we once were.
  • Sheli Petersen from Milford works with mixed media. Her images of wildlife strive to capture their relationship with the environment.
  • Richard Widhu from Nashua, whose artistic focus is mixed media on wood.

Please remember to visit the ongoing Micro Gallery at Country Houses Real Estate, 370 Main Street in New London, during business hours. They are featuring husband and wife artists Victoria Elbroch and Lawrence Elbroch. Lawrence is an award-winning photographer, and Victoria is a master print maker who draws ancient trees in the landscape. Both Elbrochs strive to bring the viewer into their work.

All First Fridays are free and open to the public. On the First Friday of each month, the Lake Sunapee Region Center for the Arts (CFA) hosts a series of free arts programs for the community, including Gallery Openings and Receptions, Classical and Folk Music Nights, Literary and Poetry Nights, as well as Theater Night. Working with their business partners in the community, CFA continues to showcase local and regional talent in the Lake Sunapee area for the benefit of the artists, performers, residents, and visitors to our beautiful region.

The Center for the Arts is a volunteer organization which welcomes your participation.
