Windows on Wilmot, a consortium of not-for-profit organizations in Wilmot, wants to invite everyone to all the wonderful events being offered. Starting with the WCA Holiday Crafts Fair December 7 and ending with the January 2, 2014 Wilmot Public Library benefit dinner at the Coach House Restaurant in New London, there is going to be something for everyone this holiday season. When you come over to Wilmot, enjoy the greening that the Wilmot Garden Club does every year to bring holiday cheer to all those who travel through.
First on the calendar is the WCA Holiday Craft Fair, held from 9 AM to 3 PM Saturday, Dec. 7. It moved to the old middle School gym in New London last year so that it could offer larger spaces to vendors, more parking and better ambiance to holiday shoppers. A favorite booth at the fair is the Wilmot Ladies Aid Society’s Cookie Walk where you can fill a tin with the most wonderful fancy holiday cookies you’ll find anywhere. And the Friends of the Wilmot Public Library are offering clever book-themed baskets at their booth that will knock your socks off.
The following day, Sunday, Dec. 8 the famous Wilmot Express will start out at the WCA Red Barn in Wilmot Flat at 4 PM with a Gingerbread House making session, then continue to the Wilmot Volunteer Firehouse on Rt. 11 to serve a great dinner, host Santa Claus and conduct a sing-along around the outdoor lighted Christmas tree from 5 to 7 PM Then it will at 7:15 PM move on to the Wilmot Public Library where Santa will read a bedtime story to kiddies. At all three Wilmot Express stops the WVFD will be conducting a “fill a firetruck”. food bank drive. Non-perishable item donations are good for a discount on the price of dinner at the firehouse. Don’t miss this wonderful holiday tradition now in its second year.
From now until December 14 Pine Hill Cross Country Ski Club will be offering season passes at the discounted rate of $99. Pine Hill has 15 miles of groomed trails with nearby parking at 220 Mt. Road in New London. Also Saturday, Dec. 14 is the date of the Wilmot Public Library’s 5th Annual Children’s Book Fair where local authors and illustrators are available to show and sell their offerings from 9 AM to noon at the library in Wilmot on N. Wilmot Rd., near its intersection with Rt. 4A in Wilmot Center.
Two more wonderful holiday events open to the public are being sponsored by the First Congregational Church of Wilmot next to the Wilmot Public Library on N. Wilmot Rd. First, the church is staging a display of International Creches from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 17 with a bit of caroling included and refreshments served. And on Christmas Eve the church will hold a candlelight service open to all at 7 PM that will include the telling of the familiar Christmas story and the singing of carols. Children of all ages are most welcome. The service will be led by Rev. Bonnie Stagg with local pianist Fred Ogmundson leading the music.
