Ruth E. (Barrett) Gagner, 80, of Newport, died on November 5, 2013, at Sullivan County Healthcare in Unity. She was born in New London on June 25, 1933, the daughter of Harry and Florence (Hunt) Barrett.
In the early ’50s Ruth worked for Joy Manufacturing and later for Sylvania for seven years. She was employed by Lake Sunapee Bank for 30 years, retiring from the IRA Department.
She loved visiting her family and taking road trips, especially to the mountains. Ruth did word puzzles and enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
She was predeceased by siblings, Horace Barrett, Elizabeth Palmer, Robert, George, and Harry Barrett, Pauline O’Neil, Fred and Bruce Barrett.
Members of her family surviving include her husband, Paul Gagner, of Unity; two sons, Brian Gagner and his longtime partner, Donna Colby and James Gagner all of Newport; two grandchildren, Jessica Benson and Adam Benson; a great-granddaughter, Natalie Olivia Stone; sisters, Pearl Fitzgerald of Sarasota, Fla., Jane and her husband, Robert Shackett of Newport, Eleanor and her husband, Linwood Hurd of Satellite Beach, Fla. and Mary Jean and her husband, Frank Wibel, of Omaha, Neb.; brothers, Donald Barrett of New London, Verne and his wife, Judith Barrett of Elkins and Sherman and his wife, Helen Barrett of Concord; two sisters-in-law, Bette Barrett of Franklin, Massachusetts. and Nance Barrett of Andover; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
A private graveside service was held on November 11 in Old Main Street Cemetery, New London. Memorial contributions may be made to the Newport Fire Department, 15 Sunapee St, Newport 03773.
