Selectmen Push for More Volunteers on Town Committees

Road and Bridges, Cable TV, and more

By the Andover Board of Selectmen

If there were any doubts about who runs our town, Town Meeting made it very clear that we all do. In 2014, the Board of Selectmen plans to build and strengthen appointed committees. The Board is currently organizing a new Andover Roads and Bridges Committee and is seeking volunteers. The Board is also seeking new members for the Cable TV Committee, which is being reorganized this year.

In 2013, over 70 volunteers served on Town committees. By August 2014, the Board hopes that over 85 volunteers will serve on Town committees. The Board is committed to supporting and strengthening our committee system, and part of that support will be accountability to both the Town and the regulations governing committees.

Town committees are established to manage specific activities and/or areas of our town as an almost independent body of town government. Every committee has articles of organization which provide an outline as to how the committee is organized, the term and number of members, areas of responsibility, and how often they meet.

If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact any member of the Board of Selectmen or stop by the Town Office.
