Alan R. Libby, 57, “The Mailman,” of Andover died on March 20, 2014 following a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Alan was born on October 7, 1956 in Waterville, Maine, the son of Reginald E. and Barbara (Esty) Libby.
He attended school in Portland, Maine before moving to Andover at an early age. He was a graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School.
For the past 15 years, Alan worked as a highway contract mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. While delivering mail in Wilmot and Springfield, he watched out for his customers, especially the elderly. He was a very caring person and always tried to help people in need. He was an animal lover and always had a supply of dog cookies for the dogs on his route.
Surviving family members include a brother, Wayne (Kathy) Libby of Weare; his stepfather, Ken Heath of Andover; a daughter, Krystal Massa of Webster, New York; a stepson, Christopher Patten of Franklin; a niece, Kayna (Adam) Fuller and their son Dakota of Plymouth, Maine; nephews Wade Libby of Weare and Adam Poulin of Freedom, Maine; his godmother and aunt, Nancy Gagne of Houston, Texas; his friend and partner, Cyndee Locke of Andover; and many cousins. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren Mariesa, Aliesa, Anthony, and Riley.
He was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Susan (Delaney) Libby.
Alan enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing, golf, and being at the ocean, and he loved a good poker game.
The family would like to thank the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Hospice team for helping us with Alan’s care during his final days.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
