Rita M. (Gadue) Smith, 82, of Currier Road, East Andover, died on Monday, November 19, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.
Rita was born on September 14, 1930 in Winooski, Vermont to Arthur and Mary (Packard) Gadue. She grew up there and moved to Franklin in 1960, where she lived most of her life before moving to East Andover in 2002.
Family and friends were very important to Rita, and she loved her pets. She enjoyed NASCAR and was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. She was well-known for her yard sales.
Rita was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Clinton D. Smith, Sr., on September 24, 2012; by a daughter, Debbie Smith; a son, Arthur “Skip” Smith; and a brother, Arthur Gadue, Jr. She is survived by her children and their spouses or significant others: Linda and Sonny Pero of Missouri; Clinton “Butch” Smith, Jr. and Kathy Poehler of Lochmere; David Smith and Sharon Lewis of Bristol; Doug and Roberta Smith of Bristol; Sandra and David Lavalley of Concord; Roxanne Danforth and Lawrence Deane of Northfield; Edward and Sheri Smith of Franklin; Lisa and Dana Pearl of Belmont; Kim Smith and Brian “Turk” McDonald of Franklin; and Sharon and Ernie Wilkins of New Hampton. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; special friends John and Susan McDonald of East Andover; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and relatives may call from 5 to 8 PM on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the HL Young and Company Memorial Home at 175 South Main Street in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the HL Young and Company Memorial Home with Reverend Duane Bailey, CRVNA Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow at Franklin Cemetery, Thompson Park, Franklin. A time of refreshment and fellowship will follow the cemetery committal services.
