A recurring theme at Town Meeting has been the need for a plan to encourage more businesses in Andover, in order to broaden the tax base and therefore lower taxes. I agree that we should be taking positive steps to encourage new business development. However, development and promotion of Andover’s current resources like the Blackwater River, the Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway, and the Northern Rail Trial should be our priority.
We should be meeting with and encouraging local businesses to expand and grow employment opportunities and encouraging investment in needed local services like a convenience store in East Andover or senior housing in the Village District.
The Lakes Region Planning Commission is a willing and capable partner in supporting both planning and execution of a comprehensive Economic Development Plan that will support our diverse and uniquely Andover town. With or without a plan, Andover will continue to develop and change. With a plan, it will be change for the better.
