Experience the spectacular art of over twenty well-known New England sculptors as you explore the beautiful gardens and grounds of The Fells Historic Estate and Gardens. These amazing sculptures will be on display from 9am-5pm, May 24 through October 13. Located on the shores of Lake Sunapee with 84 acres of forests and fields and nearly one mile of pristine undeveloped shoreline, The Fells provides the perfect setting forArt in Nature 2014: Outdoor Sculpture. From large to intimate, subtle to vibrant, dynamic to passive—each piece is sensitively sited to seamlessly integrate that which is man-created into the surrounding natural landscape.
Art in Nature engages the mind and the spirit and beckons the viewer to continue the journey until all pieces are discovered. .This exhibit was juried by P. Andrew Spahr, Director of Collections and Exhibitions, Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, New Hampshire and curated by Pam Tarbell of Mill Brook Gallery, Concord, New Hampshire. Participating artists include: Anne Kamilla Alexander, Michael Alfano, John BonSignore, Barbara Danser, Murray Dewart, Joseph Gray, Bruce Hathaway, Wendy Klemperer, John W. Mason, John Matusz, Andy Moerlein, Laura Reinhard, Antoinette Prien Schultz, Bob Shannahan, Ben Silva, Gary Haven Smith, David Smus and John Weidman.
The Fells Historic Estate and Gardens is the former lakeside summer home of American writer and diplomat John M. Hay(1838-1905). Hay’s son Clarence inherited the property and along with his wife Alice Appleton Hay, transformed the rock pasture into extensive formal and informal gardens. This historic 22-room Colonial Revival summer residence is open for guided tours from May 24 through October 13. Members are free and nonmembers pay site admission.
