ANDOVER ELEMENTARY MIDDLE SCHOOL
May 22, 2014
Dear AEMS Family,
S.H.A.R.E. Day was an energy charged day for community volunteers, staff members, and especially students. Workshops were varied and there were several new additions this year. I hope you were able to see the crafts that many students brought home. Students spent the morning participating in engaging workshops. After lunch the students came together for a presentation by the TIGER group from Plymouth State University. The day would not be possible without the efforts of Gisela Darling, AEMS staff members and generous support from our community. Thank You!
Andover Idol has been postponed for a week. That is great news for those who need a bit more rehearsal time!
Our track team is coming to the end of a very successful season. The State Meet is this afternoon and many of our student athletes have qualified. Many students mastered new events this season. Most importantly they have had fun participating, encouraging each other, and enjoying personal accomplishments of which there have been many.
Information regarding 8th grade trip was sent home through the mail and via students. Please let me know if you did not receive the information.
Mr. Tucker was a great sport last Saturday night by letting students duct-tape him to the gym wall. The duct tape activity added more than $200.00 for the 8th grade trip fund. The same night a small, but competitive, crowd played BINGO. Prizes were amazing and most everyone walked out with at least one prize. It was a lot of fun and we will definitely do it again. All profits went toward the 8th grade trip. Through fundraising this year the cost per student is $80.00 for a two night trip. Past years have been up to $75.00 for a one night stay. The PTO and parents of this eighth grade class have worked hard to bring costs down. Thank You! The class will visit the September 11th National Memorial and Museum in NYC. They will also tour the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum and end the trip at Six Flags.
Second grade classes are off to Harvard next Wednesday. The Harvard Museum of Natural History has been a long time favorite and a second grade tradition.
The Andover Players will go see “West Side Story” at the Capitol Center for the Arts next Tuesday evening.
Grades 2-8 have finished NWEA computer-generated tests in reading, math, and language usage. Teachers have instant access to the results and can adjust instruction accordingly. Merrimack Valley High School uses the spring NWEA scores of the 8th grade for math placement decisions and we use the spring NWEA scores of the 7th grade for math placement decisions for 8th grade math classes. Grades 4 and 8 have finished State Science tests. We do not get those results back until fall.
Please take care of lunch bills. Balances are beginning to rise again. Thanks!
Graduation season is almost upon us! History will be made when our first-ever full day kindergarten class graduates on Wednesday, June 18th followed by the magnificent and accomplished eighth graders on Thursday, June 19th.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or stop in.
Sincerely,
Jane Slayton
