Franklin Historical Society will present a program about the Old Man of the Mountain on Thursday, June 5.

On Thursday night, June 5, at 7 PM at the Webster/Tay House (Webster Place, off Route 3; directions at FranklinNHHistoricalSociety.org), the Franklin Historical Society proudly presents, through the graces of a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities Council, speaker Maggie Stier and her topic The Old Man of the Mountain: Substance and Symbol, recalling the iconic granite formation lost 11 years ago, in May, 2003 (even though it only seems like yesterday).

Ms. Stier is a field representative for the Preservation Alliance and has been affiliated with the Old Man in the Mountain Legacy Fund, playing a key role in the development of the new Profile Monument and Plaza in Franconia Notch. She is the co-author of Into the Mountains: Stories of New England’s Most Celebrated Peaks, has lectured extensively, and is adjunct faculty at Plymouth State University. She also serves on the State Parks Advisory Council along with the President of the Franklin Historical Society in his capacity of State Representative, helping to preserve the legacy of Daniel Webster through restoring the Daniel Webster Birthplace State Park.

The presentation is free, open to all, offering light refreshments and an opportunity to take part in the business meeting following the talk. All attendees are invited to bring their favorite keepsakes, stories, and souvenirs of The Old Man to share.
